This article explains the new Microsoft security screen that can appear when you connect to a hosted server using Remote Desktop Connection. It shows you how to verify the connection details, review the local resource sharing options, and continue safely.

⚠️ Important: Only click Connect if the Publisher, Remote computer, and Gateway server match the expected values in this article. If any details are different, or you are unsure, do not continue and contact Support.

Understand the New Remote Desktop Security Warning

  1. Start your Remote Desktop Connection as normal.

  2. Review the yellow Remote Desktop Connection security warning window if it appears.

  3. Read the message carefully. You may see text asking you to verify the publisher of the remote connection and warning that remote connections can share local resources.

  4. Check the connection details before you click Connect.

πŸ“Œ Note: This warning is expected behaviour following a Microsoft Windows update. It does not mean there is a problem with your account or with the hosted service.

Verify the Connection Details

  1. Check the Connection Details section in the warning window.

  2. Confirm that the values match the details below.

Connection detail

Expected value

Publisher

*.lawfusion.co.uk

Remote computer

portal-cb.lawfusion.co.uk

Gateway server

portal-gw.lawfusion.co.uk

  1. Click Connect if the details match exactly.

  2. Do not continue if the Remote computer or Gateway server details are different, then contact Support for advice.

πŸ“Œ Note: When these details match, the connection is legitimate and safe to continue.

Review Resource Access Options

1. Review the local resource sharing options shown in the warning window.

  2. Use the guidance below to decide which options to allow for the current session.

Option

What it does

Recommended use

Drives

Gives the hosted environment access to your local computer drives, such as C: or Documents.

Select this if you need to open or save files on your local device while working in the hosted environment.

Clipboard

Allows copy and paste between your local computer and the hosted environment.

Recommended for most users.

Printers

Allows printing from the hosted environment to printers set up on your local computer.

Select this if you print from the hosted system.

Microphones and other audio recording devices

Allows the hosted environment to use your microphone.

Select this only if you use dictation or other voice-enabled features.

WebAuthn

Allows Windows Hello or security keys to be used.

This is not required for normal use and can usually remain unticked.

  1. Leave the default selections in place if you are unsure.

  2. Continue when you have finished reviewing the options.

πŸ“Œ Note: Any changes you make to these options apply only to the current connection.

Download the Connection from the LawFusion Portal

  1. Download your Remote Desktop Connection file from the portal.

  2. Launch the downloaded file to start your session.

Using the portal is the recommended way to connect because it ensures the connection is configured correctly and provides the most secure and supported connection method.

πŸ“Œ Note: Downloading the connection file from the portal also enables the option Remember my choices for remote connections from this publisher.

Remember Your Choice for Future Connections

  1. Look for the option Remember my choices for remote connections from this publisher at the bottom of the warning window.

  2. Select this option if you want Windows to trust future connections from this publisher on the same device.

  3. Leave the option unticked if you prefer to review the warning each time you connect.

πŸ“Œ Note: This option is only available when the Remote Desktop Connection file is downloaded from the portal. If the file is created manually or downloaded from another source, the option may not appear.

Continue to Connect

  1. Confirm that the Publisher, Remote computer, and Gateway server match the expected values.

  2. Review the resource access options using the recommended guidance.

  3. Click Connect.

Your session should then open as normal.

When to Contact Support

  1. Contact Support if the Remote computer or Gateway server details do not match the expected values.

  2. Contact Support if you do not see the expected connection details in the warning window.

  3. Contact Support if the connection does not complete successfully after you click Connect.

πŸ’‘ Best Practices

  • Always download your Remote Desktop Connection file from the LawFusion portal to ensure the connection is configured correctly.

  • Check the Publisher, Remote computer, and Gateway server details before connecting on a new device.

• Only enable local resource sharing options that you need for the current session.
